Upsize Affair

People in Singapore love food. When it comes to great food, they don't mind lining up for an hour long wait. When it comes to great food with freebies.... Man, they sure don't mind camping up whole night. Eating places here in Singapore hardly get deserted, no matter what timing of the day, you could still see people tugging in. You can get literally get rich selling great food here.

Especially at the fast food chains like McDonald's, KFC, Long John Silver, Subway, Burger King, etc. you could see the eating crowd in all different possible sizes, shapes and ages. Even young schooling kids could eat a normal fast food set costing about $7-$10 easily, everyday.

McDonald's has this recent promotion that was extended after the Olympic season, giving out these nicely shaped Coca Cola glasses that came in 6 different colours (they claimed so, but I've only seen the green one from those who have managed to get one during the Olympic season.) for every upsized meals. Yesterday, I was having a rare craving for McDonald's Mac Spicy yesterday and have decided to go there and collect the Pink Coca Cola with the Upsize meal. It was also in a form of rewarding myself for studying hard for the 3 week long exams. It was about 3:30 in the afternoon and guess what? The outlet was full, with hardly 1-2 seats available. My bro and I quickly get a seat and set off to order our Upsize meals. To our disappointment, the lady at the counter mentioned that there is no cup available for today, after she took my order to upsize my meal. URGH! Being a typical Singapore Resident, I changed my order to the normal size. Who cares, no free cups... no upsize! Haha.

They had a banner of all the 6 cups displayed behind the counter and most of them are with the label 'Not Available'. It is definitely so disappointing. McDonald's really put a great deal of effort in advertising campaign and I must say, I do like their marketing and promotion tactics.

This kinda reminded me of the McDonald's and the Hello Kitty collection affair happened in 2000. Although, it happened before I came to Singapore, I heard it was a crazy SMASH. My reaction when I heard about this was, 'Uh, really?' cuz I wasn't a fan of Hello Kitty. Would have been a different story for me, if that's going to be something like, 'A free packet of tissue autographed by the cast of Twilight movie.'.. Blehhhhh..

Oh, and those of you who would like to get this sexy glasses, but do not like eating fast food, you might want to look out for this special code word when you happen to drink the soft drinks like, Coke, 100Plus, Sprite, Heaven & Earth, F&N and Seasons. If you managed to collect 5 of these code words from the Can tabs for bottle caps, you can redeem the cup at the participating 20 post offices. Check out more on this, here. And NO, I don't get any fees helping coca cola adverting this.

My Neighbourhood

You know it's sad when someone died, either of ripe old age or at a young age, with a disease or by an accident, and so on. It doesn't hurt that much when that's some strangers, but it does so deeply if that's someone you love or your family member.

I do have my empathy for whoever is in this situation where someone you love died.

But the thing is, I can't stand it when the funerals has become overboard in my neighbourhood. I do respect how different religions have their different beliefs and I have no say about that. BUT, shouldn't a funeral be a quiet one with a nice smooth way of saying goodbye to the parting person.

The thing about funerals in Singapore is that, they are noisy and whole day and night affair. The limited accommodation has forced the public to hold their loved ones funeral at the void decks of the HDB blocks. And it's chinese ritual to burn papers for the person, chantings by the priest or monks and most importantly the music.

The block next to mine has got one, right now, could have been a rich a family, could have been someone whom a lot of people attempt to take their last chances of saying goodbye. I could imagine how sorry the family members to have lost him/her. But the discordant sounds made by the musicians are constantly making me go CRAZY. I came back from my 3rd paper at about 3pm today. From the lack of sleep last night and that I have my last paper of my final year in 2 days time, so I went to take a 2 hour power nap. But was woken up by the noises from the funeral barely after 15 minutes of my nap.

I stay on the 9th Floor and if I overlook my window to have a peek at the ground, I can see right through the occasion. Many people walking in and out of the event, the yellow blinds from the undertakers, the type that gave you a sense of 'Oh, someone died?' kinda feeling from just a glimpse of it.

I'm not saying this because I can't empathize with them, it's just cuz I feel that they shouldn't go overboard with all the musicals for the sake of the neighbourhood and just let the funeral be a nice and smooth event to say the last goodbye. How grand the funeral is doesn't matter to the person who has left anymore. I hope the poor soul find a nice peaceful place that is far away from the braincracking drum sounds.

Misunderstood

Have you ever found yourself in the situation where, you said something and the person at the receiving end got it all wrong?

I don't know why. May be I wasn't very good at expressing what I was trying to say, the deeper meaning and the actual motive behind it. It's just very sad when you said something with the purest goodwill and people felt violated - or rather feel offended.

Anyways, when I love someone, I give it all to the person, be it a friend, a colleague, a classmate, a stranger or a family member. I seem to take their affairs as mine. I've put myself into so many different shoes. I do think before I say, before giving a comment, before encouraging someone or before showing my concerns.

So, whatever I've said, if that's offended you, forgive me cuz I said it with the purest motive and nothing else. Although I would say, I'm not sorry because whatever I've said, it's all for you.

Hilarious!

Okay. I told myself not to touch on this blog until my exams are over. But I can't wait for something that is SUPER hilarious and so, I have to share this with you.

I came to know of this very cool website that allows you to upload the pic of yours that is in the size not bigger than 8MB. What's so awesome about this webbie is that, you can fit your picture into the available frames/backgrounds, the effect is so great that the end result looks as if you were part of the picture. Something like this:

That's me beside the many mannequins, it does look like a real banner doesn't it. BUT that's not all, I have been very busy with so many stuffs that I didn't have time to play around with the webbie, recently, I came to know that there are new stuffs added into their website, which allows you to be part of the animated image. I've done a little experiment with my picture on that. Boy, I love this pic, it is totally hilarious! This brought out the groovy side of me. Wahaha.
